Kukkutāsana (The Cock)

 

Introduction

Kukkuta (Kukuth, Kukkutam) कुक्कुट : a cock, a hen; -ka, m. son of a Nishâda and a Sûdrâ.

Synonyms: crow, cock, fowl, rooster.

'Kukkutam' (the cock) is the fulfilment, free from jealously and enmity

Presentation

This is a spectacular posture that works on the lotus. It requires advanced hip flexibility. It also works on the arms and elbows and is said to be very demanding.

Starting point

The starting point is Padmasana.

From there, one arm and then the other, is inserted in the triangle delimited by the foot, the thigh and the calves:

Then the body tilts while resting on the hands, with the arms straight:

Right after, in a continuous movement, the weight of the body is completely transferred on the hands.

Finally, the body straightens and comes into elevation, supported only by the hands:

In this final position, initiate the circulation of air, inserting a full-lung retention and extending the expiration. As comfort grow, it is possible to include Ujjâyin.
